Abundant housing options at your disposal
One-room or Officetel
Especially for individuals who stay and work far away from their hometowns and are unable to afford a “one-room” apartment or an office-tel. This economical residence provides a place for an individual to study, work and sleep, which is relatively safe, as there is an owner who oversees the security of the building. Men and women are allocated different floors in the building. The office-tel is a suitable living option for one or two people. The one-room is a more economical option; the office-tel is more suited for both residential and commercial purposes. The office-tel is more expensive with a bigger living space and more facilities in the room.

Apartment
The option of renting an unfurnished apartment is more economically friendly for individuals living in Gwangju for an extended stay. Apartments have few facilities and amenities and usually must be purchased separately.
Gosi.won
Originally, gosi.won referred to a house in which people studied to pass their examinations. Nowadays, gosi.won have become a highly popular residence option.
Price range: 150,000 won – 300,000 won per month (Includes security and building management expenses)
Room facilities: Bed, desk, chair, Internet access
Communal facilities: TV, lavatory, shower room, refrigerator, kitchen, washing machine (This is dependent on the cost of the gosi.won; a more costly room would come with a bathroom and a refrigerator for one’s personal use.)

In Chodae Humun I heard there are many one rooms and apts for which no chunse was required and only a monthly rent can be paid.
Do you have a list of rental agencies around the city to help find these opportunities?
Oops. I mean Chondae not Chodae. But maybe there are some in Chodae as well.
Hi Maria, thank you for leaving the comments. Yes, there’re many housing options around the university, but they’re comparably smaller than other areas and more expensive. These days, monthly rent is a more popular method compared to jeonse (advanced deposit). To find listings, I usually use http://www.sarangbang.com (Korean only..you can also pick up copies of that on the streets for free). If you would like to use Budongsan (housing agencies) service, then we will try to get back to you as soon as possible on that one after we collected more info.. thanks for your information!
I would go to single room because I want to have privacy.
i’m finding room/ apartment for 1 single bed room in Gwangju. I prefer it close to Chonnam National University.
