Gwangju and Jeollanamdo can be reached by air from three airports.

While all three of these airports are to have international flights, these flights are not offered consistently. There are infrequent flights availalbe to Japan and China (Shanghai).  Please check airport websites for availability.

From Abroad to Gwangju Airport via Incheon Airport & Gimpo Airport
If flying to Gwangju from abroad, it is best to fly to Incheon Airport. Incheon Airport is the international hub for Korea located near Seoul; Gimpo Airport is the domestic hub near Seoul. If you are flying onward to Gwangju, then you will have to transfer from Incheon Airport to a flight out of Gimpo Airport.

There are buses running from Incheon Airport to Gimpo Airport for your transfer. This bus ride is about one hour long, depending on traffic. The flight from Gimpo Airport to Gwangju Airport is around an hour. To get to your final destination, taxis, buses and the subway are available from Gwangju Airport.

From Abroad to Gwangju via Incheon Airport & Direct Airport Bus
Instead of the Incheon/Gimpo bus & Gwangju flight combination, you may want to take a direct Airport Bus from Incheon to Gwangju.

Online purchases are available for buses going to local provinces: http://www.airportbus.or.kr (site in Korean language only). It is possible to buy your ticket at a kiosk near the Gwangju bus stop (Province Bus Terminal Gate 9C) at Incheon Airport. The cost is around 30-40,000 won depending on time of day.

The airport bus arrives at Gwangju Express Bus Terminal (Gwangcheon Terminal) in three to four hours, depending on traffic. Gwangju city buses and taxis can get you to your final destination.
