Uijae Art Gallery 의재 미술관
An intersection of art and nature, the Uijae Art Gallery honors ‘Uijae’ Hur Baek-ryeon, the great master of Chinese painting. Born in 1891, Uijae depicted the beautiful scenery of Gwangju and the Jeollanam-do area, and, along with other artists, formed the ‘Yeonjinhoe’ association, crowning Gwangju the City of Art. The building’s architecture – 6,000 square-meters, with 3 levels (1 underground and 2 above) – gracefully blends the works of Uijae with the landscape of Mt. Mudeungsan. It received the 10th grand prize at the Korean Architecture and Culture Awards.
