Status of Migrant Workers in Korea

1. The only legal status for foreign laborers is D3 (Industrial Trainee)

2. 4 years of employement is possible after one year of training.

3. A foreign worker is qualified as an industrial trainee in 2 ways:

• Those who come to Korea as an industrial trainee through a country associated with the Korean Federation of Small and Medium Businesses
• Those who acquire ajob at a Korean company in the worker’s home country and participare in training in the parent company in Korea.

Understanding Your Insurance Entitlements While in Korea

Any employers hiring foreign workers under the Employement Permit System must subscribe to four major social insurance plans and foreigners will receive the same benefits as Korean citizens:

• National Pension (please check other section in this site)
• Health Insurance  (please check other section in this site)
• Industrial Accident Insurance
• Unemployment Insurance
