Mangwijeong pavilion is the old site that Jang Changwoo (whose pen name is Mangwi), the ancestor of Hongseong Jang Clan, picked out as a site for this place in 1671 and built Confucian School (Seodang) to teach the younger students. Later, his descendants built a pavilion on water at the spot. This pavilion was registered as a Gwangju Cultural Property no. 5 in Feb. 29, 1984. Mangwijeong was built at the old site of the school of great teacher, Mangwi Changu Jang by his descendents. A small bridge across Mangwijeong leads to the elegant Seuphyanggak building at the center of the pond.
