Accessible walk up Mudeung mountain to view this temple.

Passing the Seokgok Reservoir of Mudeung Mountain, coming around Cheongpungswimteo Park and passing Unam Academy, we come to Chungminsa Shrine. The shrine sits above Seokgok Reservoir on Mudeung Mountain. Chungminsa enshrines General Jeon Sangui’s portrait and mortuary tablet. He was a general who died gloriously for his country after fighting the invasion of the Cheong dynasty at the Battle of Anjuseong fortress in Jeongmyohoran (the First Manchu Invasion).
His ceremonial stone grave was designated as Gwangju Metropolitan City Monument No. 3 in 1977. In the grave General Jeon Sangui, his wife (Pungcheon Lim) and Gwangsan Mr. Kim are buried together. The graveyard’s diameter is 4.9 meters and is surrounded with stone. In front of the grave is a tombstone that was constructed in the 8th year of King Cheoljong. Nineteen articles of his remain, including a school document, a permit document, a permit medicine, and weapons and armour, such as his suit of armor, his helmet, his bow and his sword. AnOther nineteen articles were discovered in an antique shop in Insa-Dong, Seoul, in the early 1980s and were donated to the National Folklore Museum. A suit of armor and a helmet were reproduced and are exhibited at the Chungminsa shrine, and rare articles such as his bow and his sword are on display in the relic hall.
This shrine was once damaged by the order of Daewongun to destroy all Confucian Schools. Later, in 1980, it was rebuilt, but only General Jeongji was re-enshrined.
